Last month one of the worst things that has happened to me in my seven years of blogging finally did. I was setting up and getting ready to record a video, when my camera and tripod came crashing to the ground right before my eyes. The moment was surreal, I could have sworn it happened in slo mo because it felt like the most dramatic scene in the movie of my life, as I leapt to try to catch them but failed miserably!
Fortunately, my camera body survived the fall, but my beloved 50mm lens took it’s last breath, and called it a day [forgive the drama Queen in me! Lenses aren’t cheap!]. I was so devastated I cancelled every plan I had made for the day, jumped into bed, and indulged in a YouTube binge watching session with my fave tub of ice cream by my side.
Moral of the story… insure your camera and your lenses!
Anyway, as I’m sure you’ve guessed from the title of this post, there is some good that came out of the fall. I decided to look at things from a different perspective, and view the incident as a sign to go ahead with my decision to invest in a new and better camera. I’d been contemplating upgrading to the Canon 70d or 80d since the start of the year, but first of all wanted to give them a test run.
Thus began my search for cheap camera rentals, which led me to Fat Lama, a UK rental website where you can rent almost anything. Cameras, lenses, lighting, drones, heck even caravans!
I was sceptical about the renting process at first, but after signing up and having to provide ID, as well reading through the FAQ’s, I was rest assured that the website was legit, and indeed it was. My first rental was an absolute breeze, and thanks to the initial new user discount code, I paid just £1 to rent the Canon 70d and Sigma 30mm f/1.4 lens for one day, which total up to £1000!

To top it off, Fat Lama also has a referral scheme which gives you and any person you refer £25 off a rental. Thanks to this scheme, I’ve been able to rent £1k – £1.5k worth of camera gear for 10 days for less than £10!
So my blogger friends or tech enthusiasts, if you’re looking for a new camera and want to take it for a test drive, or you have a special occasion that requires something more glamorous than the camera on your mobile phone, I would highly recommend a Fat Lama rental. I’ve taken my last few instagram photos [below] with the 70d, and I think it’s fair to say I’ve fallen in love!
If you’d like to try out the service feel free to use my referral code which will give you £25 off!
