I don’t know about you, but any blog post that starts off with a delicious photo of food, is one that I’m more than happy to read! The photo above features my favourite British dish, some good old Fish ’n’ Chips, which I had the pleasure of consuming a few weeks back, whilst on my second walking food tour with Eating London Tours.
I first learned about walking food tours last year, when I decided that Valentine’s Day would be my treat. For the past eight years of our relationship, hubby had always been the one to plan something for us to do, so I wanted to treat him to something really nice for once. I had also learned very early on in our marriage that one of the way’s to a man’s heart really is through his stomach, so I figured something food related would always go down well.
After an hour or so of browsing the web for fun things to do on Valentine’s Day, I stumbled upon the ‘Eating London Tours’ website. I was fascinated by the concept of a walking food tour, and then won over by the five-star ratings the company had received on TripAdvisor. [Am I the only one that loves TripAdvisor for cross checking?!]
The tour I chose was the most popular, the East End Food Tour, and boy oh boy did it surpass our expectations! From learning about the fascinating history of the East End area, to the eight delicious food tastings:
- Fish and Chips
- Salted caramel tart
- Salt beef bagel
- Bread and butter pudding
- Bacon sandwich
- Cheese tasting
- Beer tasting
I knew without a doubt this would be something we would have to do again… So we did.
The second of our walking food tours was the Pub Grub Tour. This tour is the newest of the London food tours, and as suggested by the name, involved us visiting five pubs along the London riverbank. The tour included well known dishes such as: traditional Fish and Chips, Steak Pie, Bangers and Mash, as well as a few other treats. Of course who could forget the never-ending supply of beer, ale or cider!
Whether you’re a born and bred Londoner looking for something different to do over the weekend, or you’re visiting London for the very first time, the walking food tour experience is a must, and really showcases the amazing variety of cultures represented here in the London food scene.
The lovely team over at ‘Eating London Tours’, were kind enough to provide me with a 10% discount code to share on my blog, so if you’re looking for the perfect gift, or weekend activity to do with a loved one, this may just be what you’re looking for! My favourite of both tours had to be the East End Tour, so if you do give it a try let me know if you loved it as much as we did!
